Changes Could Be Coming To Recreation Passport

New legislation making its way through the state legislature would require Michigan drivers to opt-out of paying the state’s $11 Recreation Passport fee when renewing their driver’s licenses. The Passport allows unlimited entry into State Parks and recreation areas. Currently, drivers must opt in to the program. Supporters say state parks need more money, but opponents call the move a cash grab by the state. The Republican-led Senate passed the bill on a 28-9 vote last Thursday, now sending it to the GOP-controlled House for its expected approval.
