The Lake Linden Village Police Department is investigating a structure fire to an apartment building at 118 Second Street.
Local Three News reports that officers were called to a report of a fire in the building was called in to police just after 5 in the morning on Christmas Eve. According to police, it is believed the fire started in a second floor apartment.
Three individuals jumped from a second story bedroom window to escape the fire and were transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Two other apartment residents and a Lake Linden fireman were treated for minor injuries at Keweenaw Aspirus Hospital. All individuals were treated and released from the hospital.
Mercy Ambulance assisted in transporting those injured to the hospital and the American Red Cross was on hand to help those apartment residents displaced by the fire. A temporary shelter and meeting place for the Red Cross, law enforcement and others was set up.
The Lake Linden Fire Department responded to the call and was assisted by the Bootjack Fire Department, Hubbell Fire Department, Calumet Township Fire Department and Laurium Fire Department.
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall’s office has been contacted for assistance in investigating the fire.
