Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive directive today instructing the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget to work with other state departments and agencies to identify and reduce barriers for geographically disadvantaged small businesses by increasing purchases from and contracts with them.
In response to the directive, state Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:
“It is great to see our newly elected governor take decisive steps to support Michigan’s small businesses, which are the heart of our local economies and communities. I encourage all of our smaller Upper Peninsula businesses to look into the available contracts and consider placing bids. My office stands ready should anyone have questions or need help navigating this process.”
