The search has ended for a Marquette County man who was missing for several days after snomobiling in Marquette and Delta Counties.
Local Three News reports that at just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, the body of 54-year-old Dennis Pellinen of Ishpeming was found. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says that alcohol and speed were factors in his death.
Pellinen’s body was found on North Rock Road in Delta County. Investigators believe he died late Sunday or early Monday morning, and had visited several bars in southern Marquette County and northern Delta County.
Many local trails and roads were searched with snowmobiles, officers on foot as well as several local volunteers and volunteers from the fire department in McFarland. A Michigan State Police helicopter was requested but due to bad weather in the lower peninsula, it was unable to make the trip to assist with the search. A valley med helicopter assisted in the search.
The missing person call came in around 4:40 p.m. Monday from family members who live across the street from his secondary residence in McFarland. Family members report that Pellinen left his home on County Road 444 around 6:00 p.m. Sunday on a snowmobile and did not show up for work on Monday.
