The Alger County Sheriff’s Office was called to a single person snowmobile accident Sunday, January 13, at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Trail #8 near Melstrand.
The investigation concluded that the operator of the snowmobile was traveling W/B on Trail #8 when he left the trail and struck a tree. The operator was extricated from the scene by Alger County Rescue “21” and transported to Munising Memorial Hospital by Alger County EMS . He was later flown to UP Health System – Marquette by Valley Med Flight.
Excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors.
The accident is still under investigation and the man’s name is not being released at this time.
Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Alger County EMS and Alger CountyRescue “21” were dispatched to the scene.
