Bay College officials are pleased with Northern Michigan University’s decision to allow students to transfer more credits from community colleges to an NMU degree. Starting this fall, NMU will increase the number of credit hours students can transfer from community colleges from 64 to 90.
Bay College Admissions Director Jessica LaMarch spoke with the Radio Results Network.
“Students are looking for a break in tuition,” LaMarch said. “They’re looking for accessibility at many levels, and Bay College can give that to them. The ability to take three years, potentially, of classes here, and transfer that to NMU, is just really outstanding. I really think that NMU is doing a great service for students.”
Also, the university says that it will stop requiring that 20 of a students’ final 30 credits be taken at NMU, which LaMarch says will be helpful for students who want to stay home for a third year.
LaMarch says Northern’s announcement is also good news for the many students who take “dual enrollment” classes with local high schools through the Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District.
“The face of education is changing,” LaMarch told RRN News. “We have to respect it and change along with it.”
