The Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire located at the corner of Presque Isle Avenue and Hawley Street at 12:07 Thursday morning.
As firefighters arrived on scene they encountered a working structure fire located inside of a large storage garage. A Third alarm was called by the Incident Commander shortly after arrival for additional personnel.
The building became completely involved approximately ten minutes after the Fire Department arrived on scene. Firefighters worked to control the original blaze as well as protect dwellings located around the involved buildings. Firefighters were on scene for nearly 8 hrs. working to extinguish the fire. The Marquette City Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Marquette Police Department, the Marquette Township Fire Department, the Chocolay Township Fire Department, the Red Cross, the UP Health Systems Ambulance Crew, Semco Gas Company, and the Marquette BLP, and the Marquette City Public Works Department.
There was one residence that was evacuated and those residents are being assisted by the Marquette County Pigs and Heat Charity. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
