Escanaba Salvation Army has had another great year of support from our community. Our 2018 Christmas Campaign, the Red Kettle Campaign, wrapped up with a total of $89,223 donated by in our community.
The Red Kettle Campaign is a national campaign that each corp participates in to fund their local community initiatives. 90% of the funds raised stay with the local Salvation Army to support the programs available to the community. The additional 10% is used for operation and support within the Salvation Army. The Christmas campaign, in addition to yearly mail campaigns, is a key source of income to provide assistance and programs to our community for the upcoming year.
The Salvation Army has also focused on the recruitment of volunteers for their many programs, including bell ringing to alleviate the need for paid bell ringers.
This year we had a total of 1,214 hours paid at minimum wage and 562 volunteer hours. We hope to increase the number of volunteer hours for 2019. As minimum wage increases this need increases also. There are red kettles displayed at local businesses all year to continue fundraising. Kettles will be identified in March to begin fundraising specifically for Kids Day Camp
