The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) invites the public to a meeting on Thursday, April 4, to discuss this summer’s US-41 reconstruction and roundabout project in Marquette Township, which also will include a multi-use trail and tunnel. There will be a short presentation at 5:30 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer period.
There will be opportunities for residents and business owners to review plans and ask questions or speak one-on-one with MDOT and Marquette Township officials, contractor staff, and design consultants.
Beginning in April, MDOT will reconstruct US-41 between Marquette County Road 492 to just west of Brickyard Road, extending the existing boulevard roadway.
The westbound lanes will be moved north to accommodate space needed for the divided highway. The project includes replacing signalized intersections with roundabouts at Brickyard Road and at County Road 492 near Walmart and Target, along with constructing indirect left-turn lanes, or “Michigan Lefts.”
The budget for the road work is estimated at $8.5 million, with another $2.4 million estimated for the multi-use trail and tunnel.
