How much snow fell across the Upper Peninsula in Thursday’s storm?
The National Weather Service says the most fell in Menominee County, where the snow started earlier and it took longer for it to switch to rain.
About 8.4 inches of snow was reported in Spalding, and 7.5 inches just outside of the City of Menominee. In the western U.P., 6.5 inches fell in Painesdale near Houghton, 6-point6-4 inches in Ontonagon, and 5.4 inches in Three Lakes in Baraga County. The National Weather Service office in Negaunee Townshiop received 6.1 inches of snow, and 5.2 inches fell near Harvey.
In Delta County, much less snow was reported as heavy rain and sleet took over as temperatures rose above the freezing mark at around midnight. Just two inches of snow was reported in Stonington and 2.3 inches in Garden Corners.
Numerous school districts cancelled classes on Friday, and hundreds of people lost power. As of 2:30 Friday afternoon, the Cloverland Electric Co-op still had 790 customers without power, with about a third of them in an area of Luce County east of Newberry. UPPCO had less than 100 outages in the Copper Country.
