Bark River-Harris High School’s First Robotics team has had a great season. After finishing in the middle of the pack at their first event in Kingsford, the team was not sure whether they would be able to make up ground and become State Championship Qualifiers. Their second event was at LSSU and the team rose to the challenge with their newly installed climbing mechanism finishing in 6th place out of 40 robots.
They went on to lose a tough matchup to the number 1 and 2 ranked teams in the semifinal of the playoffs by only 3 points. The team earned enough qualification points to be invited to compete in the Michigan State Championships this past weekend at Saginaw Valley State University.
At the Michigan State Championships, the team continued to raise the level of their performance finishing with a record of 8 wins and only 4 losses in their division of 40 teams. It was enough to land them a spot as the 8th seed alliance captain, but also meant that they would have to play against the number 1 and 2 robots in the playoffs. The team won the first match, then lost the second and third to be eliminated from the competition. It was a rough and hard fought match up with some truly great opponents. The team’s performance in the State Championships was enough to leave them as the 84th ranked team out of more than 530 teams in Michigan.
The student members and mentors of Team 4970 are proud and excited to announce that they have been invited to compete in the First Robotics Competition World Championships in Detroit, Michigan from April 24th to the 27th. This is an amazing opportunity for our students to meet and compete with teams from around the world.
Team 4970 needs your help! The cost for registration for the World Championship is $5,000 and hotels and transportation costs will be about another $7,500. We are looking for individuals, businesses, and organizations that would like to help us make our trip to this amazing event. Our students have worked hard this season and have spent hundreds of hours fundraising, planning, scouting, and preparing our robot for our three previous events, but we need help to get to the World Championships.
