There’s been a fatal traffic crash in the eastern Upper Peninsula.
Chippewa County Sheriffs Deputies say it happened at about 2:30 Monday morning on I-75 near Six Mile Road just south of Sault Ste. Marie when the vehicle left the highway, went into the median, and flipped over several times.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 27-year-old Stacey Hough of Sault Ste. Marie, died in the accident. Deputies say her boyfriend, 22-year-old Kole Rabb of Kalamazoo, fell asleep at the wheel as the two were returning from an Easter visit.
Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, in Iron Mountain, a Wisconsin man died after being hit by a car on US-2 near the Home Depot parking lot entrance.
Dickinson County Sheriffs Deputies say the call came in at just after 12 Sunday morning after the 20-year-old man from Florence was hit by a vehicle, driven by a 64-year-old Dickinson County woman. The man later died at Dickinson Memorial Hospital. The initial investigation suggests that the man stepped into the eastbound traffic lane before being hit by the vehicle.
Michigan State Police investigators are helping to reconstruct the accident to determine what happened. No names or other details have been released.
