The Gwinn Area Community Schools sinking fund millage request was rejected Tuesday.
The district was asking for a 1-point-75 mill increase to create a sinking fund to make classroom and other building repairs, and to upgrade security and phone systems in the district, Voters in Forsyth, Sands, Skandia and West Branch Townships voted on the proposal. The proposal FAILED 686 no to 507 yes.
Superintendent Sandy Petrovich wrote the following on the school’s Facebook page:
I would like to personally thank all of the residents that voted “yes” for our millage today! Though the millage vote failed with 507 yes votes and 686 no votes, I am appreciative of the 507 YES votes! The Board of Education will soon decide the next steps in this process. We definitely need a sinking fund to support the future years of education in our district.
