A line of thunderstorms came through Marquette County at just the wrong time Thursday night as communities were getting geared up for the big fireworks displays. The fireworks in both Ishpeming and Marquette were rained out.
The Marquette display in Lower Harbor Park has been rescheduled for tonight.
In Ishpeming, the initial announcement was that the fireworks would not be rescheduled at all because the company out of Green Bay that was to do the show was unavailable. The committee posted on Facebook that the donations that had been received would be put toward the 2020 display. That led to a number of negative Facebook posts, as well as some suggestions.
This was the latest Facebook post at about 11:30 p.m.
Ishpeming 4th of July If everybody could please stop overreacting about it tonight, it would be greatly appreciated. We need some time to sort through some possible alternatives, but unfortunately it’s difficult to do so late at night. Also, it doesn’t help when we, as a volunteer committee, are just as upset about this as any of you, and instead of politely trying to help us come up with a resolution, we get treated as if we are deceitful, dishonest people. We appreciate the few positive suggestions and will explore all of our options and put out an announcement tomorrow…for now, please let it go for the night. Thank you.
