ORIGINAL STORY:
Fire broke out in a downtown Escanaba home early Monday morning.
The Escanaba Public Safety Department responded at just after 1:15 a.m. to the 400 block of First Avenue South.
Black smoke could be seen coming from the upper portion of the two-story home, and then flames could be seen coming from the roof area. Public Safety crews broke in windows to help vent the home, and using a tall ladder truck, they cut their way into the attic. That’s when heavy white smoke could be seen, and smelt, through the area.
The Ford River Township Fire Department also battled the blaze. The American Red Cross was on hand to help with food and water to the people who were displaced, and for the firefighters.
As of 3:45 this morning, crews were still on the scene battling the blaze.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries, nor on the extent of damage.
