LMAS District Health Department is issuing a No Body Contact alert for South Manistique Lake from Long Pointe Rd.,
north to the Curtis area and down the east side of the lake to Carlson Rd.
Samples taken Friday, August 16, 2019 returned from the lab today – Saturday, August 17, with significantly higher e-coli levels than expected. The map below outlines the area of the lake included in this alert. This does include the Wolfe Bay area which has been in the alert area since late Thursday afternoon.
Additional testing will be done and the results will be returned on Tuesday, August 20th.
The investigation of the sewage discharge and now elevated e-coli levels continues with the assistance of the Michigan DNR and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (formerly DEQ).
Diseases acquired from contact with contaminated water can cause gastrointestinal illness, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, and wound infections. Anyone exhibiting symptoms should contact their local health care provider.
