UPHS – Marquette is pleased to announce the addition of Michael Kates, DO, to its Family Medicine Team.
Dr. Kates completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Michigan State before going to Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school. Thomas recently completed his residency with UPHS in Marquette.
“I have grown to love Marquette and the community,” Dr. Kates said. “I wanted to try and stay and serve the community as best I can. UPHS has a lot of the resources of a bigger system, including medical students and residents, but it still has a community hospital feel.”
Dr. Kates joins a Family Medicine Team that is dedicated to providing compassionate, quality healthcare for the UP’s family, friends and neighbors. UPHS – Marquette offers a full-spectrum of primary care services including annual physical exams, well-child exams, pediatrics, geriatrics, women’s health, minor outpatient surgery, diabetes education, nutrition counseling and more.
“I believe that health does not happen all at once, and it is a longterm process that isn’t the same for everyone,” Dr. Kates said. “I enjoy helping people find the process for themselves and navigate the sometimes confusing world of healthcare. Some people want to make big changes, other people can just make small changes, and others just need help maintaining the health they have.”
Outside of medicine, Dr. Kates enjoys mountain biking, fishing, hunting, art and music.
Dr. Kates is now accepting patients. To learn more about UPHS – Marquette Family Medicine, visit http://www.mgh.org/FamilyMedicine or to make an appointment, call 906.449.1010.
