The Birthing Center at the Aspirus Ironwood Hospital will be undergoing several enhancements over the next several months, including structural and aesthetic changes to promote a healing environment and provide a maximum positive experience with hotel-like amenities.
“The project will be a balance between a space that meets the needs of our patients and increases functionality for our staff,” said Medical/Surgical Manager, Lisa Leppala. “We’re making sure to include evidence-based design strategies to promote safety.”
Aspirus Ironwood wants to continue enhancing family support and to allow women to personalize their birth experience. The renovation will include comfortable spaces for the use of birthing balls and the option for hydrotherapy with a walk-in shower. It will be a comfortable, spa-like atmosphere with dimmable lighting and the option for music and aromatherapy. The rooms will have ample seating for visitors and a sleeper sofa for partners. The changes are a very thoughtful design that will support the needs of the technology generation. Many new mothers enjoy texting or posting updates about their new life; as such, there will be charge stations in the labor, postpartum, and waiting rooms.
The Aspirus Ironwood Auxiliary is spearheading this project fundraiser and kicked-off the project by presenting Aspirus Ironwood with a $40,000 check toward the renovations. This fundraising aims to raise upwards of $150,000 to go towards the renovation project. Proceeds from events such as their annual Winter Formal in November, done in partnership with the Gogebic Range Health Foundation, will support this important project.
