Middle and high school students throughout Marinette and Menominee Counties have a unique opportunity to give back to their community. There are over 90 groups of teen givers all across Wisconsin and Michigan who work through Community Foundations to help young people in need.
The Youth Advisory Committee was formed in 1996 by the M&M Area Community Foundation. Each year the Community Foundation offers thousands of dollars in YAC grants to non-profit organizations to fund programs and projects which support area youth. The Youth Field of Interest Fund held at the Foundation has awarded more than $360,000 in grants since its inception. Grants have been awarded to Crivitz School District for students to attend Camp Bird, Pembine Area Christians for their Christmas Wish Program, Tri-County Safe Harbor for Youth Advocacy and Menominee County Department of Health and Human Services for their Back To School Program, among others.
YAC members are students, aged 12 – 21, from across Marinette and Menominee Counties. In addition to awarding grants, members participate in volunteer projects and have an opportunity to attend workshops with like-minded youth. Two YAC members are also elected to the Board of Directors of the M&M Area Community Foundation with full voting rights and responsibilities.
Interested students should attend the first YAC meeting on Wednesday, September 11th at 6:30pm at Murray’s, 715 1st Street, Menominee, MI. Students may also contact Lead YAC Advisor, Josh Jones at jkjonesmi@gmail.com or 715-923-4409, or the MMACF office at 906-864-3599.
Belonging to YAC is good for students and great for the community – join us!
