At 12:21 hours on 09/15/2019 Central Dispatch in Negaunee alerted the City of Ishpeming Fire Department to a structure fire at 721 Duncan Street in the City of Ishpeming.
Upon arrival Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the attached garage, with fire extending into the house. Fire crews knocked down the fire and had the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.
The City of Negaunee Fire Department and Marquette County 131 Rescue assisted on scene.
Two residents were home at the time of the fire. One of the residents smelled smoke and went outside to check. The resident saw smoke and fire inside the garage and called 911.
The home and attached garage sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage. The home was insured.
No injuries were reported. However, both of the homeowner’s cats did not survive the fire.
The fire remains undetermined at this time, but is not considered suspicious.
Also assisting on scene were crews from UPPCO and SEMCO. Pigs & Heat and the American Red Cross will be assisting the residents.
