On September 19, 2019, Ryan Richard St. John was sentenced for his involvement in narcotics trafficking for a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of up to 40 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Previously he had pleaded guilty to Delivery of Methamphetamine, Possession With Intent to Deliver Heroin, Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine and Money Laundering 3rd Degree. Additionally, he was sentenced as a Habitual Offender 3rd.
The investigation into the illegal activities by Mr. St. John began during the fall of 2018. Acting on information, Manistique Public Safety began collecting information regarding Mr. St. John. In January and February of 2019, Manistique Public Safety conducted controlled buys of methamphetamines from a 3rd party. Further investigation revealed Mr. St. John was the distributor of that methamphetamine. Shortly thereafter, Detectives for UPSET were requested to assist with the investigation and arrest of St. John. On February 26, 2019, UPSET, Manistique Public Safety, Manistique Public Safety K9 Unit, and the Michigan State Police executed numerous search warrants leading to multiple arrests of suspects including St. John.
Manistique Public Safety Officers, with the assistance of the Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department and the 93rd District Court Probation Department continued investigating after the arrest, discovering a continuing attempt by Mr. St. John to engage in distribution of methamphetamine while incarcerated at the Schoolcraft County Jail. Further investigation also revealed attempts to launder the proceeds of his narcotics trafficking to make them appear to have come from legitimate sources. As a result of these actions, Mr. St. John was charged with additional offenses including Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine and Money Laundering.
My office would like to thank all the officers involved in these extensive matters. Many hours were spent investigating and prosecuting this case, their work was outstanding. My office and the various police agencies involved will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute the illegal trafficking and sales of controlled substances in Schoolcraft County.
