SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY: LAKESHORE FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TUESDAY NIGHT…DELTA COUNTY: LAKESHORE FLOOD ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT TUESDAY
The National Weather Service in Marquette has issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning…which is in effect until midnight EDT Tuesday night.
Easterly winds 30 to 35 mph gusting up to 45 mph, becoming south 35 to 40 mph tonight gusting up to 45 mph.
Waves building 7 to 10 feet will impact the Lake Michigan shoreline Schoolcraft counties this evening. After winds turn south, waves will build up to 12 to 14 feet Tuesday afternoon. Highest waves are expected between 5 PM and 9 PM EDT Monday and then 12PM to 6PM EDT Tuesday.
Large…pounding waves will cause minor beach erosion…lakeshore flooding…and minor damage to docks. The
water level of Lake Michigan is currently 14 inches higher than one year ago and just 9 inches below the October record high level. Strong easterly winds have not yet been seen this fall. As a result…lakeshore flooding and beach erosion this afternoon and evening may impact areas which have not seen damage before.

One area of concern will be along the lakeshore south of Escanaba during easterly winds and then along the Garden Peninsula and Big Bay de Noc during southerly winds. A Lakeshore Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and waves will generate flooding of low areas along the lakeshore.
