The Superintendent of Schools in Escanaba is suggesting the closure of the Soo Hill Elementary School.
Coby Fletcher gave his recommendation to the Escanaba School Board Monday night. He says he made the decision because of budget concerns and the fact that the student population continues to shrink. First and second graders would move to the Lemmer Elementary School, third graders would go to the Upper Elementary School, and sixth graders would move to the junior high.
Fletcher says that no teaching staff would be cut under his proposal, but there would be a reduction in administrative and other staff. Fletcher says there will be discussion at the next Committee of the Whole meeting in November, and a final decision could come as early as the November full board meeting.
