The 11-year-old Escanaba boy who was reported missing Thursday afternoon has been found safe.
Escanaba Public Safety put out the call for the public to look for Jake Messenger, who went missing from the Esvanaba Upper Elementary School. Officers and volunteers searched all afternoon throughout the downtown area and at about 4:30 in the afternoon, Delta County Central Dispatch reported that the boy was found safe.

On Thursday, October 24, 2019 at approximately 11:03am, Delta County Central Dispatch received a call with concerns of a student’s wellbeing after running away from School Officials.
Jacob Messenger, 11 year old boy and student of the Upper Elementary, ran away from school officials while being spoken to Escanaba Public Safety, Michigan State Police Gladstone Post, Delta County Sheriff Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Delta County Sheriff Department Search and Rescue, Volunteers from Escanaba Township Fire Department, Ford River Township Fire Department, and Nahma Township Fire Department conducted a search throughout the City of Escanaba.
Escanaba Public Safety and Delta County Central Dispatch posted on their respective Facebook pages asking the public for assistance. Delta County Central Dispatch did receive a call at approximately 4:15pm from an Escanaba School bus driver claiming to have seen the missing boy.
Officers responded to the area where the boy was reported being seen. Officers did locate the missing boy in good condition near the 100 block of North 15th Street. The boy was united with his family after being located.
Escanaba Public Safety would like to thank all of the agencies, volunteers, and community for the assistance in locating Jacob. Nothing further will be released at this time.
