At the annual luncheon on October 21, The Evergreen Award of Marquette County honored Cindy Nyquist, RN, as its newest recipient.
During the announcement Luci Contois, Evergreen Committee Chair, stated, “She quickly became a pioneer and through this trek into unmarked territory, she mentored many women to excel and achieve leadership positions. She set an example for women and girls and proved that if you want something and work hard enough at it, then you can make it happen and anything is possible. I, for one, always find it difficult to believe in the power of 1 and yet history shows us that all major changes, movements, new innovations, establishments and organizations do start with 1. Our candidate is in that category….
…Because of all of her involvements, business development, extraordinary education and mentoring activities, she and her business have received many awards, too numerous to mention here. She has demonstrated excellence, creativity and initiative in building her business from the bottom up and mentoring women and girls all along the way (and still does) to reach their leadership potential. How fortunate to have this trailblazer, this passionate, caring women in our community from which it has received immeasurable benefits from her vision. She has inspired and mentored so many. I’m proud to introduce you to the 2019 Evergreen Award Recipient, Cynthia Nyquist!”
Nyquist was shocked to learn she was receiving the award.
“As I was listening, I thought to myself how impressive this person was- it wasn’t until halfway through that I realized it seemed like she had a lot in common with me! The truth is, you don’t really think you’re doing anything special when you are actually doing it. You’re simply doing it because you know, in your heart, it’s the right thing to do and that you can make something a little better than it was before.”
The Evergreen Award honors individuals who are dedicated to supporting and mentoring women and girls and helping them to reach their leadership potential.
These exceptional women and men excel in their chosen path, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way, and blaze trails for others to follow. The luncheon also honored last year’s recipient, Sue Madden, who spoke of the community and the people in it that make a difference. The Evergreen Scholarship was given to Jayna LaViolette to continue her education as a nontraditional student. Nominations for the 2020 award will be accepted during the summer and the winner will be announced at the next Evergreen Luncheon on October 19, 2020.
