Governor Whitmer has completed her first overseas trip to strengthen business ties with Israel and solidify Michigan as a world leader in mobility.
Throughout her trip, the governor met with government, business, and nonprofit leaders and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Israel-based nonprofit Start-Up Nation Central. The governor also announced a new collaboration with Mobileye, a global leader in collision avoidance and autonomous vehicle technology.
“This has been a valuable first trip to solidify relationships with business and nonprofit leaders in Israel,” said Governor Whitmer. “Michigan governors have a long history of working with our partners abroad to strengthen our mobility sector and make Michigan a worldwide destination for businesses and talent. I was proud to continue that tradition this week and look forward to future trips.”
On Tuesday, Governor Whitmer signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Israel-based tech NGO Start-Up Nation Central to collaborate on technology solutions that have the potential to improve opportunities and quality of life for Michigan citizens. She also met with Dr. Yuval Steinitz, Israel’s Minister of Energy, toured GM’s Advanced Technological Center in Tel Aviv, and provided remarks at the Water Technology and Environmental Council (WATEC) Conference, highlighting her dedication to protecting our Great Lakes and fresh water.
Wednesday, Governor Whitmer visited Ford Motor Company’s New Regional Research Center in Tel Aviv, the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation, and the William Davidson Archaeological Park.
Thursday, Governor Whitmer joined executives from Intel-owned Mobileye, a global leader in collision avoidance and autonomous vehicle technology and state officials to announce a new agreement between the state of Michigan and Mobileye.
Friday, Governor Whitmer took a tour of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum followed by a visit to the Archives of the Yad Vashem Research Center. She also met with Saul Singer, former editorial page editor at the Jerusalem Post and co-author of Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel’s Economic Miracle.
And today, on her final day of the trip, Governor Whitmer met with a group of Palestinian business leaders in East Jerusalem, where they discussed political and economic challenges and the causes to support peace and prosperity.
