Mark James Wilson, 59, of Kalamazoo was sentenced to 25 years to 40 years in prison. Wilson was sentenced following the entry of a guilty plea as charged to Armed Robbery. Wilson was sentenced as a Fourth Habitual Violent Offender and was subject to a mandatory 25 year sentence.
On July 9, 2019, Escanaba Department of Public Safety officers responded to Hardee’s for an armed robbery in progress. Officers located and were able to detain Wilson in the men’s restroom of the restaurant. Officers were able to detain Wilson with no injuries to any patrons or employees. Investigation revealed that Wilson walked into the restaurant and passed a note to an employee stated that “this is an armed robbery and I don’t want to shoot anyone.”
Wilson’s note further demanded the money be brought to him in the men’s restroom.
Detectives interviewed Wilson, who admitted to passing the note and demanding the money. Wilson was determined to have committed previously had committed the 2009 Armed Robbery at Arby’s in the city of Escanaba as well.
