The Escanaba School Board voted 5-2 Monday night to close the Soo Hill Elementary School at the end of this school year.
The move will save the district approximately $250,000 a year, although no teachers are expected to be cut.
In the reconfiguration plan, first and second graders will attend Lemmer Elementary.
Third through fifth graders will go to the Upper Elementary downtown. Sixth graders will move to the high school building.
Superintendent Coby Fletcher said in a recent interview that the decision was a tough one that has been emotional for the community.
