A PATH Chronic Pain Workshop is being offered by the Northern Lights YMCA in Escanaba starting in January of 2020!
We all experience pain from time to time – from headaches to muscle strain or joint pain. But many people live with ongoing, persistent pain – known as chronic pain – that comes from injuries or conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, nerve damage, injuries or other conditions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 11% – 40% of the U.S. adult population has chronic pain that impacts their physical and mental health and is one of the most common reasons that people seek medical care.
That’s the bad news. The good news is that help is available. The PATH Chronic Pain Workshop – an evidence based program developed at Stanford University, provides information and strategies for reducing and managing pain and has been researched and proven to decrease pain, improve mental health, and increase confidence in one’s ability to manage pain down the road. With mutual support from others in a PATH workshop, you can build confidence to make new choices and feel better. Set your own goals and put new problem-solving skills to work in your life, you are in charge.
This PATH workshop is for adults of all ages or the partner, spouse or caregiver of someone who has or suffers from chronic pain. It is led by trained leaders-many who have a chronic health condition themselves – and focuses on helping participants feel better, have more control, and do the things they want to do.
This FREE workshop will meet once a week on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the MTEC Center located at 2000 North 30th Street in Escanaba, MI – starting January 16th and ending on February 20th, 2020. There is NO COST to attend this workshop and all materials and a refreshment are provided.
Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. You can register by Dialing 2-1-1 or online at either WWW.UPCAP.ORG/EVENTS or through the Northern Lights YMCA website at WWW.NLYMCA.com under Programs/PATH. This program is being brought to you by the Northern Lights YMCA with support from UPCAP, the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and community volunteers.
