Daniel Jeremiah Miller, 19, was convicted today of five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, victim under the age of 13, defendant age 17 or older, two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, and three counts of accosting a minor for immoral purposes.
The defendant was found guilty by a jury after a three-day jury trial in the 25th Circuit Court, with the Honorable Roy D. Gotham presiding on assignment through the State Court Administrator’s Office.
The defendant will be sentenced by Judge Gotham at a later date, where the defendant will face a maximum penalty of life in prison, with a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty-five years in prison, for each of the first-degree criminal sexual conduct charges.
Each of the second-degree criminal sexual conduct charges carries a maximum penalty of fifteen years in prison, and each of the accosting charges carries a maximum penalty of four years in prison. In addition, the defendant is eligible for consecutive sentencing.
The case was investigated by Trooper Ryan Giroux of the Michigan State Police, Negaunee Post, with assistance from Trooper Randall Rovelsky also of the Michigan State Police, Negaunee Post. The case was prosecuted by Chief Assistant Prosecutor Andrew G. Griffin.
