The City of Escanaba on Sunday sent partially-treated wastewater into Little Bay deNoc.
The Escanaba Wastewater Department says that it’s because of the combination of high ground water and the latest rain event. The city did not say how much wastewater was sent into the bay during this “by-pass”.
The city has had to do this several times over the past couple of years because its wastewater treatment infrastructure has been overwhelmed, particularly during the spring snow melt and during extended periods of rainfall. Escanaba is in the planning process for major upgrades to the plant and to other infrastructure.
