Learning never stops. Some skills, like money management will ALWAYS be essential, no matter the circumstances.
Though school is not in session in the traditional sense, The Stephenson National Bank & Trust (SNBT) will continue to celebrate Teach Children to Save Day on April 20 as it has for over 20 years.
In partnership with the American Bankers Association, SNBT has created a portal of online financial literacy resources to be used by teachers and families.
The webpage can be found by visiting www.snbt.com/teachchildrentosave. Here, SNBT has created a number of virtual lessons to accommodate young learners in a variety of settings. The first lessons make learning about saving money as easy as reading a book. Bankers are recorded reading money-related, age appropriate books. Accompanying the videos are discussion questions that educators and family members can use to guide children through concepts such as ‘wants’ versus ‘needs,’ making decisions between spending and saving money, and rainy-day funds. Other lessons will be added in the future.
“Normally, SNBT bankers would give nearly 30 presentations, teaching almost 600 children in the community about positive money habits,” said Diane St.Martin, SNBT Oconto Office Manager. “We really miss sharing these conversations with students in person, but felt this was still a great way to share our knowledge while we all stay safe and healthy at home. Plus, we feel that learning the basics of money management at a young age builds the foundation for good money habits later in life.”
