An investigation in Manistique has led to the discovery of numerous neglected animals, and the possible neglect of two vulnerable adults.
Manistique Public Safety says that they started getting numerous complaints of animal neglect in the home last Wednesday. They went to the home Monday evening with a search warrant and found 39 animals inside..,many of them in p0or physical condition, suffering from severe flea infestation.
The animals included nine dogs, 12 cats, four lizards, 13 chickens, and a hamster.
The Michigan Department of Human Services was called to remove two children, aged 10 and 16, from the home. They’re still investigating the possible neglect of two vulnerable adults. The animals were turned over to the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter and Upper Peninsula Veterinary Services. The case has been given to the Schoolcraft County Prosecutor for review.
