Earlier this year, The Salvation Army received a $3,000 grant from the Homelessness Prevention Services Endowed Fund held at the M&M Area Community Foundation.
The Salvation Army was able to use this grant to support their Emergency Assistance Program. Emergency Assistance provides help with a portion of utilities and rent for individuals and families in danger of becoming homeless, entering new housing, or losing access to necessary utilities like heat and water. In the last year, The Salvation Army was able to assist 81 households living in Marinette and Menominee counties, most of whom were families with children or seniors.
All of us rely on our most basic needs to be met in order to feel secure and thrive in life. When individuals and families struggle with making ends meet and are in danger of losing these foundational needs, there is a lot of stress. Keeping people housed and with the lights and water on create healthier, happier communities. It is also our goal to work with persons to make sure there is a future plan to pay these bills so they can continue to grow and thrive.
Julia Nutter, case manager said, “The Salvation Army’s mission is to meet human need without discrimination and this grant allowed us to extend extra grace to our struggling neighbors, and provide hope during this time of a global pandemic. We will be here standing alongside other agencies to offer the help people need to get back on their feet and look towards a brighter future. We are so grateful to the M&M Area Community Foundation for giving us this opportunity.”
