Volunteers from the American Red Cross are helping a family of seven people, including five children, who were displaced early this morning (Nov. 27) by a home fire on US-2 in Rapid River.
Communications officer Justin Kern says the Red Cross is providing the family with comfort and financial assistance for temporary lodging and immediate needs like food.
“And we’ll work with our community partners to identify next steps for this family as they begin their recovery,” he said.
The fire broke out Friday morning, prompting the state transportation department to close US-2 westbound lanes at Whitefish Lane as township fire crews dealt with the fire. US-2 was fully reopened just before 11 a.m.
