The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday reported 17,162 new positive test results and 64 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 108 more deaths to the total.
These are two-day numbers because no report was issued on Thanksgiving.
Michigan now has 341,941 confirmed cases since the crisis began in March. The state also has recorded 8,933 deaths during that time.
The state also has 27,860 “probable cases” and 424 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 369 new cases and ten new deaths in the Friday report. Seven of those deaths were added to Dickinson County’s total. Marquette County added 101 new cases.
The U.P. added two new “probable” deaths to the total.
The U.P. now has 11,577 confirmed positive test results, and 212 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 2,001 probable cases and 35 probable deaths.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
MDHHS reports that 13,825 have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 152,267. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis. This will be updated again on Saturday.
