The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 5,793 new positive test results and 130 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 60 more deaths to the total.
Michigan now has 366,242 confirmed cases since the crisis began in March. The state also has recorded 9,324 deaths during that time.
The state also has 29,211 “probable cases” and 435 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 159 new positive tests on Tuesday, with 61 of them coming in Marquette County, 15 in Dickinson County, and 11 in Delta County. Mackinac County reported its first COVID death yesterday.
The U.P. now has 12,036 confirmed positive test results, and 232 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 2,183 probable cases and 39 probable deaths.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
MDHHS reports that 13,002 have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 165,269. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
