The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department was involved in two separate high speed chases with a man who eventually shot himself to death on Wednesday.
Deputies say it started at 3:30 in the afternoom when they were trying to serve him a child custody court document. The 33-year-old man took off in an SUV at a high rate of speed through Kingsford, Norway, and into Menominee County. Norway Police tried to put “stop sticks” in the road, and the man lost a tire, but called 911 and said that he was not stopping. So police said that they were going to stop the pursuit.
Well, an hour later, Menominee County Sheriffs Deputies called and said that they were pursuing the suspect. He went across the county line again and started heading up toward Felch on M-69, and Dickinson deputies put out more “stop sticks”. He ran over the sticks, and then police say he purposely sped up into a field and into some trees just east of Mattson Road.
When deputies surrounded the vehicle and tried to get him to surrender, but the man shot and killed himself.
