The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Saturday reported 6,004 new positive test results and 48 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive tests. They added 145 more deaths to the state’s total.
Michigan now has 395,036 confirmed cases and 9,854 deaths since the crisis began in March.
MDHHS reports its largest one-week total of recoveries as well. Some 32,841 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 197,750. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
The state also has 31,540 “probable cases” and 467 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 97 new cases, with Chippewa County adding 23 of the cases. Two new deaths were reported, both in Marquette County.
The U.P. now has 12,673 confirmed positive test results, and 254 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 2,411 probable cases and 49 probable deaths.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
