The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday reported 5,909 new positive test results and 112 new deaths.
State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive tests. They added 79 more deaths to the state’s total.
Michigan now has 410,295 confirmed cases and 10,138 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The state also has 32,781 “probable cases” and 487 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 84 new positive tests on Tuesday. New deaths were reported in Dickinson, Marquette, and Menominee Counties.
The U.P. now has 12,905 confirmed positive test results, and 262 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 2,573 probable cases and 51 probable deaths.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
MDHHS reports its largest one-week total of recoveries as well. Some 32,841 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 197,750. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
