Multiple search and rescue crews joined the military Wednesday in looking through a vast area of the Hiawatha National Forest for the pilot of a Wisconsin Air National Guard F16 fighter jet that crashed Tuesday night.
The crash site in eastern Delta County was initially secured by local emergency responders, and military personnel from the 115th Fighter Wing took over supervision of that area. Crews searched from the air, on the ground, and over bodies of water, searching for the unidentified pilot.
As of early Thursday morning, there was no announcement about the pilot’s status. The 115th Fighter Wing posted a “thank you” on its Facebook page yesterday saying that it is “appreciative of all of the love and support” the wing is receiving. The F-16 based at Truax Field in Madison, Wis, crashed Tuesday night as it took part in what was to be several days of training.
