The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday reported 7,205 new positive test results and 90 new deaths.
These are two-day totals, as reports are not issued on Sundays. The numbers show a continued downward trend in the rate of growth.
Michigan now has 437,795 confirmed cases and 10,752 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The state also has 34,795 “probable cases” and 537 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 89 cases over the last two days, with Marquette County having the most with 22 new positives. Delta County added 18 and Dickinson County 17. Baraga County had eight cases removed from its total.
New deaths were reported in Marquette and Dickinson Counties.
The U.P. now has 13,446 confirmed positive test results, and 281 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 2,777 probable cases and 54 probable deaths.
Some local health departments reported different totals, as reporting cutoff times are different than the state report.
For consistency, we use the MDHHS data in our report.
MDHHS on Saturday reported its largest one-week total of recoveries as well. Nearly 40,000 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. The total recoveries now stands at 236,369. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis.
