The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Saturday announced 8,983 new coronavirus cases. This is a three-day total, averaging 2,994 cases per day since Wednesday.
MDHHS reported 54 new deaths. They also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 211 more deaths to the total.
Michigan now has a total of 497,127 cases and 12,598 deaths since the crisis began last March.
MDHHS on Saturday more than 45,000 people have been listed as “recovered” in the last week alone. That is an all-time weekly record. The total recoveries now stands at 363,611. This is defined as being alive 30 days after the positive test or diagnosis. This is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
The state also has 40,994 “probable cases” and 707 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 136 new cases over the three day period, with the most coming in Chippewa County with 37. Delta and Dickinson Counties both added 20 cases and Marquette County reported 18 new positive tests. No new deaths were reported in the U-P.
The U.P. now has 14,416 confirmed positive test results, and 324 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 3,332 probable cases and 73 probable deaths.
