The Delta County woman accused of keeping dozens of animals and running a “puppy mill” operation at her home in Rock has agreed to give up ownership rights of the animals.
Delta County Prosecutor Brett Gardner says a hearing was scheduled Monday for Rebecca Johnson to answer to the civil forfeiture. That hearing was cancelled when Johnson signed off on her ownership rights for the animals. The Michigan State Police seized the dogs and horses from the property on August 24th. Gardner says that in all, there were 216 adult dogs, puppies, and horses seized and now the Delta Animal Shelter is in charge of finding homes for the animals.
Johnson still faces felony criminal charges of animal abandonment and cruelty, as well as a misdemeanor charge of having an unlicensed animal shelter.
