Baraga County’s elected officials are taking a stand against continued COVID-19 restrictions coming from Lansing.
In a strongly-worded statement Monday night, all five members of the county board, the county treasurer and clerk, and sheriff Joe Brogan, signed what they call “Baraga County Manifesto”. In it, they vow to “have no intention of participating in the unconsitutional destriction of our citizens’ economic security and liberty”.
The officials say they will refuse to enforce any more of the restrictions being ordered by the Whitme administration….calling it, a “terribly misguided agenda”.
The governor’s current restrictions, issued under the state health department and using a 1918 Spanish Flu-era state law, are set to expire this Friday. She has not said whether they will be extended beyond that, saying only that a decision would be announced soon.
