The director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Robert Gordon, abruptly resigned on Friday. The decision came just hours after his boss, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, announced that bars and restaurants would re-open at limited capacity on Feb. 1. That announcement also continued a shutdown of youth and high school contact sports for three more weeks, until Feb. 21.
