The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Monday announced 3,011 new coronavirus cases and 35 new deaths.
This is a two-day total, covering both Sunday and Monday, so equates to roughly 1,505 new cases per day.
Michigan now has a total of 551,080 cases and 14,326 deaths since the crisis began last March.
The state also has 49,013 “probable cases” and 893 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.
The Upper Peninsula added 77 new cases over the past two days, with 22 of them coming in Houghton County and ten in Dickinson County. Marquette County added nine cases and Delta County had eight more positive tests.
Five new deaths were reported in the Upper Peninsula: three in Iron County, and one each in Houghton and Chippewa Counties.
The U.P. now has 15,753 confirmed positive test results, and 365 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.
The U.P. has had a total of 3,782 probable cases and 81 probable deaths.
Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.
The state also is reporting that more than 21,000 people have recovered in the past week alone. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 463,106 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
