Michigan Adds 1,476 New Positive Tests, 26 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Tuesday announced 1,476 new coronavirus cases and 35 new deaths.

State officials also went through death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 44 more deaths to the state total.Michigan now has a total of 552,546 cases and 14,405 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 49,612 “probable cases” and 900 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 26 new positive tests on Tuesday, with eight in Gogebic County and six in Houghton County. One new death was reported in Houghton County.

The U.P. now has 15,779 confirmed positive test results, and 364 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,816 probable cases and 81 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also is reporting that more than 21,000 people have recovered in the past week alone. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 463,106 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
