The Oscar G. Johnson VAMC (OGJVAMC) is currently receiving a limited supply of Moderna COVID-19 doses each week. Veterans who are 65-years-old or older, or are in one or more of the following categories: homeless; a spinal cord injury, transplant, dialysis, or oncology patient, or have other high-risk comorbidities, will be called and scheduled as more of the vaccine is delivered. We are setting up appointments by area, age, known risk factors, and the availability of the vaccine. There is no need to call in to schedule at this time.
Iron Mountain VA will distribute the vaccine to more than 18,000 Veterans in the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin. More than 3,100 vaccines have been administered to date and more are scheduled for the next few weeks. As vaccines are delivered, they are administered within days, sometimes within hours of receipt. Therefore, the numbers of vaccines received directly impact the number of Veterans to be scheduled.
The Moderna vaccine is a two-dose regimen given approximately 28 days apart. All recipients will be scheduled for their second dose during the appointment for their initial dose. It is imperative that if a Veteran receives the first dose of the vaccine here, they return to the same facility for their second dose.
Veterans may go to the VA’s Covid-19 information page where they can access the most updated information for Iron Mountain VA’s vaccination plan. To access this page, go to www.ironmountain.va.gov and the link is located under Health Care Services in the menu on the left.
