Michigan Adds 1,383 New Positive Tests; 40 In Upper Peninsula

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday announced 1,383 new coronavirus cases and 32 new deaths.

Michigan now has a total of 563,893 cases and 14,704 deaths since the crisis began last March.

The state also has 51,967 “probable cases” and 940 “probable deaths” that are not confirmed by a positive test result, but COVID-19 is believed to be the cause.

The Upper Peninsula added 40 new positive test results on Wednesday, with the most being eleven in Gogebic County. That county also recorded a COVID death.

The U.P. now has 15,995 confirmed positive test results, and 370 confirmed COVID-19 deaths since the crisis began in March of 2020.

The U.P. has had a total of 3,886 probable cases and 88 probable deaths.

Some local health departments may report different numbers on different days. We use the MDHHS numbers in our report for consistency.

The state also is reporting that more than 17,000 people have recovered in the past week. That is defined as being alive at least 30 days after the diagnosis or onset of symptoms. Michigan now has 481,801 total recovered cases. This number is updated once a week, on Saturdays.
